Akpos Ayodeji Richard Makun wins a month-long trip to Atlanta, Georgia, and invites his cousin Richard Ramsey Nouah to join him. Upon arrival, they reconnect with an old friend, Okiemute, who takes them out to dinner. Akpos spots the beautiful Kimberly and hopes to ask her out, but Okiemute warns that Kimberly’s father is very controlling. The trio later crosses paths again at an environmental conference, where Akpos’s awkward but funny remarks draw laughs, yet Kimberly’s eye is more on Richard. She gives Richard her phone number, just as her father, restaurateur Odiye, arrives on the scene.

Richard heads back to the restaurant to await Kimberly’s visit, but Akpos shows up unannounced. Kimberly tells Akpos that her father enjoyed his conference remarks and is open to a stand-up comedy contract. On the taxi ride home, Richard realizes he left his wallet behind; the driver refuses them service, forcing them out. Kimberly and Odiye lend them a ride back to Odiye’s home, where they meet the family—and Clara Lynn Whitfield, the immigration lawyer. Akpos and Clara begin a romantic relationship.

On a Skype call with his parents, Richard learns his former girlfriend Ese is making wedding arrangements. He tries to reassure his mother that they have ended their relationship and mentions Kimberly. He introduces Kimberly to his parents, but his mother insists he should marry Ese. Ese tries to convince Kimberly that Richard will disappoint her and shows Kimberly intimate pictures of her with Richard. Kimberly leaves in tears.

Meanwhile, Akpos becomes involved in illegal street gambling and is arrested. Clara visits him in jail and agrees to represent him. It is discovered that Akpos has violated his visa, making his case more serious. In court, the judge notes that Akpos’s total earnings could be donated to charity under supervision to cover his legal and visa costs. Clara takes him to her house, where they share a dinner followed by a night together, but she later overhears Akpos on the phone implying that their relationship could secure his green card, which enrages her and leads her to eject him from her house.

Richard tries to mend things with Kimberly, but Odiye orders him to stay away, reiterating the problematic image some Nigerian men bring to the West. Richard also argues with Ese about her interference.

Akpos reluctantly donates his earnings to charity. At the airport, as the men prepare to board their flight back to Nigeria, Kimberly and Clara unexpectedly show up, deciding to follow them home to meet their relatives and see what the future may hold.
