Born on November 29, 1953, in Tokyo, Japan, Momose entered the animation industry during a transformative period for Japanese anime, quickly distinguishing himself with a meticulous eye for layout and key animation. His early work included contributions to television series and feature films, but his breakthrough arrived when he was recruited by Studio Ghibli in 1988 to assist with the emotionally resonant Grave of the Fireflies.
