Thomas Kane Roberts, known professionally as Tom Kane, was a prolific American voice actor whose career spanned over four decades and left an indelible mark on animation, video games, and theme park entertainment. Born on April 15, 1962, in Overland Park, Kansas, he discovered his passion for voice acting at the tender age of fifteen, launching his professional journey in 1977 while still attending Shawnee Mission South High School. After graduating from the University of Kansas in 1984, Kane quickly established himself as a versatile vocal talent, becoming particularly renowned for his work in the Star Wars franchise where he voiced iconic characters including Yoda, Admiral Ackbar, Boba Fett, Qui-Gon Jinn, and C-3PO across various animated series, films, and video games. His animation credits extended far beyond the galaxy far, far away, encompassing beloved roles such as Professor Utonium and HIM in The Powerpuff Girls, Darwin Thornberry in The Wild Thornberrys, Mr. Herriman in Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Lord Monkey Fist in Kim Possible, showcasing his remarkable range from paternal warmth to villainous menace. He also succeeded George Coe as the voice of Woodhouse in the animated series Archer, bringing his signature gravitas to the character of Sterling Archer's long-suffering butler, and voiced Magneto in Wolverine and the X-Men and Ultron in various Marvel animated projects.

Kane's distinctive baritone also became synonymous with major entertainment institutions through his extensive work as an announcer, including the Walt Disney World Monorail System (starting in 2012), multiple Academy Awards ceremonies, the AFI Life Achievement Award shows, and the absurdist comedy series The Eric Andre Show. In the video game realm, he brought to life characters like Takeo Masaki in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies series, Gandalf and Professor X in various Marvel and fantasy titles, and numerous roles in Star Wars games utilizing Industrial Light & Magic's motion capture technology. His personal life reflected his generous spirit and commitment to family; he married Cindy Roberts in 1982, and together they raised nine children—three biological and six adopted. Tragically, in November 2020, Kane suffered a debilitating stroke that impaired his speech, reading, and mobility on his right side, forcing his retirement from voice acting in 2021. He passed away on May 18, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 64 from complications of the stroke, leaving behind a legacy celebrated by colleagues including Powerpuff Girls creator Craig McCracken and co-stars Cathy Cavadini, Tara Strong, and E.G. Daily, who paid tribute to his extraordinary contributions to the art of voice acting.
