Terumi Niki (二木 てるみ, Niki Terumi; born 11 May 1949) is a veteran Japanese actress whose career spans more than six decades, making her one of the most enduring figures in post‑war Japanese cinema and television. Born in Tokyo, she entered the world of performing arts at the tender age of four when she joined the prestigious theatrical troupe Gekidan Wakakusa in 1953, where she received rigorous training that laid the foundation for a lifelong dedication to the stage. By 1955 she had already appeared in the film Keisatsu Nikki (Policeman's Diary), demonstrating an early aptitude for screen work that would complement her theatre experience. Her breakout role came in 1965 when the legendary director Akira Kurosawa cast her as the young Otoyo in Red Beard, a performance that highlighted her natural ability to convey innocence and emotional depth amidst the film’s complex moral landscape.
