A prominent Spanish model and beauty pageant titleholder, she emerged victorious in the Miss National category during the Miss Spain contest of 1984. Consequently, this win allowed her to represent her homeland in the Miss Universe pageant of 1985, where she achieved the distinguished position of the 1st runner-up.
In preparation for her career in modeling, Sánchez López received formal training at the Escuela de Modelos y Promoción de la Moda located in Seville. The turning point in her career came in 1984, when she was crowned Miss Seville and Miss Western Andalusia the same year. Her journey at the Miss Universe contest in 1985 was remarkable; she obtained the highest placement for Spain since 1974 and held this record until 2013. Throughout the duration of the pageant, Sánchez López enjoyed a favorable position among the media and pageant experts, marking her as a strong contender for the crown.
