Eve is a shy young woman employed as a maid at a luxurious hotel in Mexico City. Her diligent work does not go unnoticed, as her boss suggests that she might soon qualify for a promotion to clean one of the more exclusive floors.
When one of her male coworkers asks her to attend to a guest who specifically requested a woman, Eve finds herself helping an overwhelmed mother who urgently needs someone to watch her baby while she takes a shower. Growing increasingly attached, Eve assists the mother daily, forming a bond with both her and the child. The guest, hailing from Argentina, even hints at the possibility of Eve moving back with her; however, upon returning one day, Eve is heartbroken to find that the woman has suddenly left without a word.
Eve takes part in GED classes provided by the hotel, where she initially struggles to fit in. But soon, she befriends Minitoy, a classmate who encourages her to embrace life and step out of her comfort zone. With Minitoy’s support, Eve begins to discover new passions, including reading for enjoyment, sparked by a book gift from her teacher: Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach.
As Eve navigates her emotions, a window cleaner persistently makes advances toward her, which she brushes off repeatedly. However, emboldened by her growing confidence, she decides to seduce him one day. In a surprising act of defiance, while cleaning a room, she strips down and shamelessly masturbates in front of him as he cleans outside.
Unfortunately, Eve’s life spirals out of control soon afterward. The GED classes get shut down, and the window cleaner turns his attention elsewhere. Just when she thinks she has a reason to celebrate—a red dress left behind by a guest finally becomes hers—she discovers that Minitoy has been awarded the promotion Eve had long coveted.
In an emotional attempt to process her feelings, Eve makes her way to the 42nd floor, where she examines the luxurious suite that Minitoy will now occupy. Ultimately, she departs the hotel, luggage in hand, signaling her decision to quit and seek a new path.
