Teresa Gimpera Flaquer, better known simply as Teresa Gimpera, was a pioneering figure in Spanish cinema and fashion during the vibrant decades of the 1960s and 1970s. Born on 21 September 1936 in Igualada, Spain, she grew up in Barcelona's Sant Andreu neighbourhood, the daughter of two teachers, which gave her a solid cultural foundation. Her first professional foray was as an advertisement model for the renowned photographer Leopoldo Pomés, a role that quickly highlighted her striking presence and paved the way for a successful acting career. She made her film debut in the surrealist drama Fata Morgana (1965) and soon became a familiar face in a string of popular titles, including Lucky, the Inscrutable (1966), The Exquisite Cadaver (1969), and the cult classic The Spirit of the Beehive (1973). Over the span of more than six decades, Gimpera's filmography reflected an eclectic mix of genres—from Spaghetti Westerns to horror—showcasing her versatility and enduring appeal. Later, in 1990, she wed American actor Craig Hill, a fellow expatriate who had settled in Barcelona after working in European westerns; their marriage lasted 24 years until Hill's death in 2014. Teresa Gimpera remained active in the entertainment industry up until her passing on 23 July 2024 in Barcelona, succumbing to cancer at the age of 87.
