Steve Clemente (born Esteban Clemento Morro on 1885‑11‑22 in Tonichi, Sonora, Mexico) was a Mexican‑American actor famed for his intense villainous portrayals and extraordinary knife‑throwing skills. Starting his performance career as a teenager, Clemente signed his first screen contract in 1917 for the silent Western The Secret Man, where he played Pedro the Foreman. In the early 1920s he moved to Hollywood after impressing a skeptical director with a live knife demonstration, earning a reputation as a precise stunt performer who could land a blade mere inches from leading actors without mishap. This unique talent made him a sought‑after scene stealer, and his snarling on‑screen presence secured him a niche as the go‑to henchman in adventure and horror pictures. Among his most memorable roles were the menacing Tartar in The Most Dangerous Game (1932), the eerie witch‑doctor in the original King Kong (1933) and its sequel Son of Kong, and the knife‑throwing antagonist in Fighting Through (1934). Throughout the 1930s he appeared in dozens of films—often uncredited—ranging from The Murder in the Museum to Perils of Nyoka, embodying the stereotypical Mexican or Native American villain with a ferocious intensity that audiences loved to hate.

Despite a prolific filmography, Clemente’s on‑screen appearances dwindled after 1942, and he retired from acting following his final role in Murder on the Waterfront (1943), where he performed a spectacular knife‑throwing act.
