Sándor Zsótér (born 20 June 1961 in Budapest) is a distinguished Hungarian actor, playwright, director, and associate professor renowned for his versatile contributions to stage and screen. His career began shortly after graduating from the Drama Faculty of the Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest in 1983, and he quickly established himself at the Hevesi Sándor Theatre in Zalaegerszeg where he performed from 1983 to 1985. Over the next decade he graced several important Hungarian theatres, including the Szigligeti Szolnok Theatre (1985‑86), the Miklós Radnóti Theatre in Budapest (1986‑90), and the Zsigmond Móricz Theatre in Nyíregyháza (1990‑92). His leadership skills emerged when he served as director of the National Theatre of Miskolc (1992‑94) and later organized the Szigligeti Szolnok Theatre (1994‑96). Since 1996, Zsótér has been a dedicated instructor at his alma mater, shaping future generations of actors and directors, while simultaneously maintaining an active performance schedule at venues such as the National Theatre in Budapest, the Comedy Theatre of Budapest, and the Hungarian State Opera House.

Zsótér's cinematic breakthrough came with his haunting portrayal of Dr. Miklós Nyiszli, the witness doctor in the Academy Award‑winning film Son of Saul (2015), a role that cemented his international reputation. In addition to his film work, he has been a member of the Géza Gárdonyi Theatre in Eger since 2008 and continues to collaborate with theatres across Hungary. His contributions to Hungarian culture were recognized with the prestigious Kossuth Prize, reflecting a career that spans more than three decades of artistic excellence and pedagogical influence.
