Between 1993 and 1999, a man embarked on a remarkable crime spree, robbing 29 financial institutions in Budapest. Banks, post offices, and travel agencies were targeted during his six-year reign of undetected robberies. Police were baffled, with the only identifying factor being the lingering scent of whiskey at each crime scene, earning him the media nickname "Whiskey Bandit." As he never harmed anyone, many eagerly followed his exploits through the news. The culprit was eventually identified as Attila Ambrus, a Transylvanian immigrant and goalie for a local hockey team. However, his capture wasn't quite as straightforward as it seemed.
