Scott Derrickson: Movies & Box Office

Scott Derrickson, born on July 16, 1966, is an American filmmaker renowned for his work in the horror genre. Some of his most noted works include The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005), Sinister (2012), The Black Phone (2021), and the highly-anticipated sequel, The Black Phone 2 (2025). On top of that, Derrickson is also well-known for his contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the superhero film Doctor Strange (2016).

Derrickson kickstarted his career in the industry with Hellraiser: Inferno, part of the Hellraiser series, which was released directly to video in 2000. Since then, Derrickson's extensive career has included a variety of high-grossing films, such as The Exorcism of Emily Rose, which netted over $144 million globally and won the 2005 Saturn Award for Best Horror or Thriller Film. Following works like The Day the Earth Stood Still remake and critically acclaimed Sinister continued his success streak. Derrickson, however, stepped down from the director's chair for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness over creative differences but remained as an executive producer. His most recent directorial venture, The Black Phone, received several accolades including Best Horror Film at the 47th Saturn Awards.

In addition to his directorial pursuits, Derrickson has made significant contributions as a screenwriter, producer, and even uncredited script revisions for popular films like Scream 4 (2011) and Poltergeist (2015).
