Sarah Ellen Polley OC (Born: January 8, 1979) is a Canadian screenwriter, director, political activist, and retired actress. She first garnered attention as a child actress for her role as Ramona Quimby in the television series Ramona, and later starred in the Canadian television series Road to Avonlea (1990–1996). Throughout her career, she has starred in many feature films such as The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988), The Sweet Hereafter (1997), and Mr. Nobody (2009).

Polley made her directorial debut with Away from Her (2006), earning multiple awards and nominations, including a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Her subsequent works include Take This Waltz (2011), and Stories We Tell (2012). Her 2022 film Women Talking, based on the novel by Miriam Toews, won her an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Polley was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the youngest of five children to Diane Elizabeth Polley, an actress and casting director. A DNA test in adulthood revealed that her biological father was producer Harry Gulkin, an affair revealed in Polley's film Stories We Tell.
