Richard Whalley Anthony Curtis CBE, born on 8th November 1956, is a prominent British screenwriter, producer, and director. As one of the UK's most accomplished comedy screenwriters, Curtis is recognized chiefly for his work in romantic comedy films, including popular hits such as Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), Notting Hill (1999), Bridget Jones's Diary (2001), and Love Actually (2003). His other notable works include the drama War Horse (2011), and sitcoms like Blackadder, Mr. Bean, and The Vicar of Dibley. Curtis began his career writing for the BBC's Not the Nine O'Clock News and ITV's Spitting Image. In 2007, he received the BAFTA Fellowship for lifetime achievement. Beyond his film career, Curtis is known for his philanthropic work as the co-founder of the British charity Comic Relief, alongside Sir Lenny Henry, raising over £1 billion. He received the BAFTA Humanitarian Award in 2008 for co-creating Comic Relief and contributing to other charitable causes. He was listed as one of the 50 funniest figures in British comedy by The Observer in 2003.
