Richard Lawrence Ashton, born on 26th September 1963, is a former English cricketer known for his right-handed batting and right-arm medium pace bowling style. Ashton was born in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England. He began his career in County Cricket, debuting with Lincolnshire in a Minor Counties Championship match against Durham in 1988. Later in 1991, Ashton made a move to Bedfordshire. During the season with Bedfordshire, he played 3 Minor Counties Championship matches against Northumberland, Cumberland, and Suffolk. It was also during this tenure that he partook in a single List A match against Worcestershire in the 1991 NatWest Trophy. After a hiatus of eight years, Ashton represented the Northamptonshire Cricket Board, playing 2 List A matches against Wiltshire in the 1999 NatWest Trophy and Northumberland in the 2000 NatWest Trophy. Throughout his professional career, Ashton played a total of 3 List A matches, during which he scored 8 runs at a batting average of 4.00, with a high score of 5*. As a fielder, he took 2 catches, and with the ball, he managed to take a single wicket with a bowling average of 98.00. His best bowling figures were 1/30.
