P.J. Hogan: Movies & Box Office

Paul John Hogan, better known as P.J. Hogan, is a renowned Australian film director and screenwriter. Born on 30th November 1962 in Brisbane, Queensland, Hogan made his debut in the film industry in 1984. He initially faced a challenging adolescence, which reportedly influenced his film, Mental. Hogan's first directorial endeavour was a short film titled Getting Wet, which earned him an AACTA Award for Best Short Fiction Film. This initiated his journey in the industry, directing minor films and writing for television series such as The Flying Doctors in 1991 and Lift Off in 1992.

Hogan came to prominence with the 1994 Australian film, Muriel's Wedding. The film not only bolstered his career but also helped launch the careers of actors Toni Collette and Rachel Griffiths. The film's success led Hogan to make his American debut with My Best Friend's Wedding in 1997, starring Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz and Dermot Mulroney. Hogan then directed several other films, including Unconditional Love, Peter Pan and Confessions of a Shopaholic. However, despite positive reviews, his 2003 adaptation of Peter Pan did not succeed at the box office. In his personal life, he is married to film director Jocelyn Moorhouse, and they have four children together.
