Pieter Kuijpers (born 30 July 1968 in Tegelen, Netherlands) is a prolific Dutch film director, producer and screenwriter whose career has spanned more than two and a half decades. Emerging from a modest background in the southern Limburg town of Tegelen, Kuijpers studied the craft of storytelling before breaking into the industry with his debut feature Darkling in 1995, a gritty drama that announced his willingness to explore morally complex characters. Over the next years he built a reputation for handling both cinematic and television projects with equal vigor, directing the hard‑edged crime thriller Van God Los (Godforsaken) in 2003, a film that earned him the coveted Golden Calf for Best Film and Best Screenplay at the Nederlands Film Festival.
