Peter Riegert: Movies & Box Office

Peter Riegert (born April 11, 1947) is known as a renowned American actor, director, and writer. He gained recognition for his various roles across film and television; as Donald 'Boon' Schoenstein in 'Animal House' (1978), executive 'Mac' MacIntyre in 'Local Hero' (1983), pickle store owner Sam Poser in 'Crossing Delancey' (1988), and Lt. Mitch Kellaway in 'The Mask' (1994). Besides acting, he showcased his directorial abilities in the short film 'By Courier' (2000), which led to an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film. Riegert's strong presence could also be felt on the television screen. He had recurring roles as Ronald Zellman in the HBO series 'The Sopranos' (2001–2002) and George Moore in the FX series 'Damages' (2007). He also portrayed Seth Green's father in the comedy series 'Dads' (2013–2014). His television appearances earned him an Emmy nomination for HBO's 'Barbarians at the Gate' in 1993. Riegert was raised in Hartsdale, New York, in a non-observant Jewish household. He graduated from Ardsley High School and later from the University at Buffalo. His career started in theatre with Broadway and Off-Broadway shows before making his film debut in 1978. His varied career includes roles in television series like 'MAS*H', 'Sopranos', and 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit', and films such as 'Traffic' and 'We Bought a Zoo'.
