British stage and screen veteran Miles Anderson (born 23 October 1947 in Southern Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe) has built a remarkably diverse career spanning over five decades, earning him a reputation as a versatile and dependable character actor on both sides of the Atlantic. Raised in a military family—his father was Major‑General J. Anderson, CBE, the former commander of the Southern Rhodesian Army—Anderson was educated at Prince Edward School before turning to the performing arts, eventually becoming an associate member of RADA and establishing a firm foothold in classical theatre, where his commanding presence earned him the 1982 London Critics' Circle Drama Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Twin Rivals and The Witch of Edmonton. His stage credentials were further solidified with an Olivier nomination for his portrayal of Sigismund in Calderón's Life's a Dream with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and multiple San Diego Critics' Circle Awards for roles such as George III, Prospero, Salieri, and Shylock in productions directed by Adrian Noble.\n\nOn television, Anderson is perhaps most fondly remembered in the United Kingdom for his role as Lieutenant Colonel Dan Fortune in ITV’s Soldier Soldier (1991‑92), while his American credits include appearances on Criminal Minds and the BBC’s Midsomer Murders episodes “Death In Disguise” and “Last Year's Model”. He has also contributed his voice to the 1997 TV adaptation of The Odyssey as Poseidon, and performed as Major Marchbanks in the BBC adaptation of Philip Pullman's The Ruby in the Smoke.
