Martin Alan 'Marty' Feldman, born July 8, 1934, was a renowned British actor, comedian, and comedy writer recognized globally for his distinctively prominent, misaligned eyes. He first rose to fame as a writer alongside Barry Took on the ITV sitcom 'Bootsie and Snudge' and the BBC Radio comedy programme 'Round the Horne.' Feldman later gained attention as a performer with his significant roles in 'At Last the 1948 Show' and 'Marty.' These two shows cemented his reputation in comedy, especially Marty, which awarded him two British Academy Television Awards, including Best Entertainment Performance in 1969. Beyond TV, Feldman graced the film industry with standout performances in 'The Bed Sitting Room' and 'Every Home Should Have One,' the latter ranking as one of the UK's top comedies in 1970. His portrayal of Igor in the 1974 film 'Young Frankenstein' won him the first Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor. He passed away from a heart attack on December 2, 1982, while filming 'Yellowbeard' in Mexico City. Born to Myer Feldman and Cecilia (née Crook), both Ukrainian Jewish immigrants from Kyiv, Feldman recalled his childhood as solitary, with periods spent in evacuation during World War II. His early dreams were to become a jazz trumpeter, but by 20, he had resolved to pursue a career in comedy. Offstage, Feldman was known for his political leanings as an avowed socialist, known for his strong opinions on social issues. He was also a lacto-ovo vegetarian.
