Mario Maurer is a Thai actor, model and occasional singer who rose to prominence after his breakthrough role as Tong in the 2007 film Love of Siam. Born on December 4, 1988 in Bang Rak, Bangkok to a German father and a Thai‑Chinese mother, he grew up bilingual in Thai and English but never mastered German, despite his ancestry. After completing his secondary education at Saint Dominic School he earned an LL.B. from the Faculty of Law at Ramkhamhaeng University and later a master’s degree in Political Communication from Krirk University, underscoring his dedication to education. At the age of sixteen he was discovered at Siam Square and quickly entered the world of fashion, doing photo shoots, commercials and music‑video appearances that built his early public profile. His first major acting opportunity arrived when director Chukiat Sakweerakul cast him as Tong, a role that earned him critical acclaim, a Best Actor award at the Starpics Thai Films Awards, and international attention beyond Thailand’s borders. Following Love of Siam, Maurer diversified his filmography with projects such as Friendship (2008), the horror anthology 4 Romance, and the comedy‑horror film Rahtree Reborn.
