Lukas Nelson: Movies & Box Office

Lukas Nelson was born on December 25, 1988 in Austin, Texas, the third of Willie Nelson’s eight children, and grew up straddling the cultural landscapes of Texas and Hawaii. From a young age he was drawn to the outdoors, spending his childhood surfing and skateboarding before discovering a deeper passion for music. By the age of eleven he had already penned a song that appeared on his father’s album It Allways Will Be, a testament to his early songwriting talent. He attended a Montessori school run by his mother, Annie D'Angelo, before continuing his education in junior high and high school on Maui, where he further cultivated his musical interests. In 2007 he briefly enrolled at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, a move that positioned him at the heart of the West Coast music scene. Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real emerged in 2008 after a chance meeting with drummer Anthony LoGerfo at a Neil Young concert, with the band’s name inspired by the lyric “Some get stoned, some get strange, sooner or later, it all gets real.” The group quickly earned a reputation for blending country, Americana, and rock, touring extensively and collaborating with artists such as Neil Young and the Rolling Stones. In 2016, after Bradley Cooper saw the band at the Desert Trip Festival, Nelson was invited to co‑write and produce music for the 2018 remake of A Star Is Is Born, contributing eight original songs alongside Lady Gaga. This effort garnered him a BAFTA for Best Original Music and a Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, cementing his status as a versatile producer and songwriter.
