Raised in a culturally rich Dutch environment, Borel developed an early fascination with theatre and took his first steps on local stages before transitioning to the burgeoning film industry of the 1930s. His breakthrough came when he was recruited by British producers, allowing him to appear in a series of Anglo‑Dutch productions that showcased his melodious voice and charismatic screen presence. Among these, the 1937 musical Head over Heels remains a highlight, illustrating his ability to blend song, dance, and acting within the lively pre‑war British cinema landscape.
