The Purple Mask 1955

In the year 1803, France stands under the shadow of Napoleon Bonaparte [Robert Cornthwaite], while royalists rally behind the elusive Purple Mask, a masked swordsman whose bold exploits kindle new hope.

Captain Rochet [John Hoyt] chases the enigmatic vigilante, but is captured by the very man he pursues, forcing Napoleon to assign Brisquet [Dan O’Herlihy], a master swordsman, to close the net.

Laurette de Latour [Colleen Miller], daughter of a duke and the romantic interest of Captain Laverne [Gene Barry], becomes a key royalist ally and helps craft a bold plan. The scheme centers on René de Traviere [Tony Curtis], a dapper swordsman who can pass as the Purple Mask, infiltrating Napoleon’s ranks to free Laurette’s kidnapped father, the Duc de Latour [Paul Cavanagh].

Laurette remains unaware that René is the same man she is counting on, and the impersonator’s bold ruse earns him ridicule as his cover is blown and he is imprisoned along with the duke.

Laurette discovers the truth while they are imprisoned, a turning point that intensifies the stakes of the plot.

On a pre-arranged raid through the sewers of Paris, royalist rebels manage a dramatic rescue of René, Laurette, and the duke as they near the guillotine. Napoleon, relieved to be rid of this trouble, grants René and Laurette safe passage out of the country to England.
