Britt Lomond

Britt Lomond, also credited as Glase Lohman, was an accomplished American actor and television producer whose career spanned nearly three decades from the mid-1950s through the early 1980s. Born on April 12, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in New York City, Lomond's early life was marked by remarkable valor and athletic prowess. Before entering the entertainment industry, he served with distinction as an Army paratrooper during World War II, earning three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, and a Bronze Star for his courageous service. Following the war, he attended New York University, where he became an accomplished fencer, ultimately earning a coveted spot on the United States Olympic fencing team for the 1952 Helsinki Games. However, Lomond chose to channel his fencing skills into theatrical performances rather than Olympic competition, beginning his professional career as a fencing instructor and performer for stage and film productions, occasionally using the screen name Glase Lohman in his early television work.

Lomond launched his acting career in 1956 and quickly established himself as a versatile character actor, most notably portraying the villainous Capitán Monasterio in the first season of Disney's beloved Zorro television series. He further cemented his place in Disney history by playing General George Armstrong Custer in the 1958 film Tonka. Throughout the late 1950s and 1960s, he became a familiar face on television Westerns and anthology series, appearing in Death Valley Days, Cheyenne, The Virginian, and Perry Mason, among numerous others. Beyond acting, Lomond transitioned into production roles, serving as a unit production manager for acclaimed projects including The Waltons, Somewhere in Time, and Falcon Crest, while also working as a first assistant director on Battlestar Galactica and MacGyver. An accomplished painter as well, he co-owned the BRITTINI commercial art studio in Los Angeles during the 1960s, where he produced distinctive "sofa art" and created murals for Grauman's Egyptian Theatre. Lomond passed away on March 22, 2006, in Huntington Beach, California, at the age of 80, leaving behind a diverse legacy in both the performing and visual arts.
