Kirk Bovill: Movies & Box Office

Kirk Bovill is an American actor, writer, voice‑over artist and producer whose eclectic career spans film, television, video games and music. Born on January 17, 1961 in Wayne, Nebraska, he grew up in a creatively‑inclined family; his mother Judy was a teacher, artist and writer while his father Ron taught college, coached track and appeared in national Wells Fargo commercials as Mark Twain. After graduating from Aurora High School he attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, earning a bachelor’s degree in Biology in 1984 and contributing as an undergraduate assistant coach to three national indoor track titles. He later pursued a master’s in Journalism with an advertising minor at Louisiana State University, where he helped LSU win its first two NCAA team titles and received CoSIDA national runner‑up honors for his 1986 Track and Field Media Guide. While working as a marketing director in the high‑tech optoelectronics sector, Bovill discovered improv at The Comedy Store, joining the troupe that launched the popular “Trippin’ on Tuesdays” show in 2006; a backstage endorsement from Robin Williams convinced him to quit his corporate job at age 46 and enter entertainment full‑time. Since 2007 he has amassed more than one hundred screen credits, beginning with an armed enforcer role in Hallmark’s Murder 101 and quickly moving into guest spots on series such as Criminal Minds, CSI, NCIS and Grey’s Anatomy. His breakout film role came as the redneck killer Long in Dominic Murphy’s White Lightnin’ (2009), which screened at Sundance and Berlin, leading to parts in high‑profile movies like Adam McKay’s Vice (portraying Henry Kissinger), Mike Mills’s 20th Century Women, and the James Brown biopic Get On Up. Bovill’s television résumé includes recurring appearances as Donald Sterling on HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, as well as roles on Better Call Saul, American Horror Story: Asylum, Brooklyn Nine‑Nine and CSI: Vegas. He has also voiced characters in video games, notably Dick Baker in Dead Rising 3 and Toomer Deschamps in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Together with his wife, actress Joni Bovill, he releases music on their indie label Elmo Records, achieving indie‑top‑50 chart success with the single ‘Let Go’. The couple are active foster‑care advocates, serving as ambassadors for Kids in the Spotlight and supporting Light Africa Ministry’s educational projects in Uganda. An avid cyclist and certified scuba diver, Bovill continues to balance creative pursuits with community activism.
