Kate Capshaw, known professionally as Kathleen Sue Spielberg (née Nail), is an American former actress, producer, and painter. Born on November 3, 1953, in Fort Worth, Texas, Capshaw started her acting career in New York City, after landing her first role on the soap opera ‘The Edge of Night.’ Her big breakthrough came when she landed the female lead as Willie Scott in 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' (1984), directed by her eventual husband Steven Spielberg. Besides acting, Capshaw also starred in various films throughout the late 1980s into the 1990s including 'Dreamscape' (1984), 'SpaceCamp' (1986), 'Power' (1986), 'The Quick and The Dead' (1987), among others. Further, her portraiture work earned recognition in esteemed institutions such as the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and the Pérez Art Museum Miami.

In her personal life, Kate was previously married to Robert Capshaw and had one child, Jessica. Later, she married film director Steven Spielberg in 1991 and together, they have a total of seven children. In 2009, Kate began her journey in the art world, studying drawing, painting, and portraiture, and found a particular interest in portraits of young individuals experiencing homelessness. In 2023, Capshaw made a surprise appearance on stage with Michelle Obama during a Bruce Springsteen show in Barcelona.
