Karra Elejalde, born Carlos Elejalde Garay on 10 October 1960 in Vitoria‑Gasteiz, Álava, Spain, is a celebrated Spanish actor, screenwriter and director whose career spans over four decades. He began his artistic journey in the independent theatre scene of the Basque Country, honing his craft on experimental stage productions before breaking into cinema with his feature debut A los cuatro vientos in 1987. Throughout the 1990s he forged notable collaborations with visionary directors such as Juanma Bajo Ulloa, Álex de la Iglesia and Julio Medem, performances that cemented his reputation as a versatile character actor capable of balancing dark comedy with dramatic depth. Elejalde’s on‑screen charisma reached a wider audience when he portrayed the iconic detective Mortadelo in Mortadelo y Filemón contra Jimmy el Cachondo (2014), a role that showcased his skill in both physical comedy and voice work. He also delivered a memorable turn as Koldo in the smash‑hit comedies Ocho apellidos vascos (2014) and its sequel Ocho apellidos catalanes (2015), performances that earned him popular acclaim while he consciously declined participation in further sequels.
