June Ada Rose Duprez was born on 14 May 1918 in Teddington, Middlesex, England, notably during an air raid in the final months of World War I, to Fred Duprez, an American comedian, and Florence Isabelle Matthews, an Australian. She began her acting training at the prestigious Froebel Institute before launching her professional career with the Coventry Repertory Company during her adolescence. Her film debut came in 1936 with The Crimson Circle, followed by roles in The Cardinal and a small part in The Spy in Black (1939), but it was her portrayal of Ethne Burroughs in the 1939 adaptation of The Four Feathers that established her as a major film star. Duprez reached the pinnacle of her career starring as the Princess in Alexander Korda's spectacular fantasy epic The Thief of Bagdad (1940), filmed on location across the United Kingdom, northern Africa, and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. This performance cemented her status as one of Britain's most promising leading ladies and led Korda to take personal charge of her career, bringing her to Hollywood with an ambitious asking price of $50,000 per film.

However, this aggressive pricing strategy backfired when Duprez failed to achieve the same level of popularity in the United States as she had enjoyed in Britain, effectively pricing her out of contention for most major roles. After leaving Korda's contract, she appeared in lower-budget productions including They Raid by Night (1942), Little Tokyo, U.S.A. (1942), and Tiger Fangs (1943), before experiencing a brief resurgence in prestige pictures with Clifford Odets' None But the Lonely Heart (1944), where she shared the screen with Cary Grant and Ethel Barrymore. She delivered a memorable performance as Vera Claythorne in René Clair's classic mystery And Then There Were None (1945) and starred opposite Alan Ladd in Calcutta (1947). Beyond cinema, Duprez composed the song "I Woke Up and Started Dreaming" which was purchased by Bing Crosby's music company, and she maintained an active presence in radio, starring in episodes of Silver Theater and Suspense. She transitioned to New York for a brief Broadway career and appeared on television in Robert Montgomery Presents (1951), with her final screen appearance coming in One Plus One (1961). In her personal life, she married Frederick Guy Beauchamp in 1935, divorcing in 1942, and later George M. Moffett, Jr. in 1948, with whom she had two daughters before their 1965 divorce. After residing in Rome for several years, she returned to London, living in Knightsbridge until her death on 30 October 1984 at age 66 following a long illness.
