Judy Garland, born Frances Ethel Gumm on June 10, 1922, was an American actress, singer, and vaudevillian. Recognized for her powerful voice and intense emotional acting style, Garland's distinct talent made her a beloved figure in American entertainment. She started performing as a child with her two elder sisters, before landing a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer at the age of thirteen. Her famous roles include Dorothy in 'The Wizard of Oz', for which she sang 'Over the Rainbow', a song that became her signature. She made more than two dozen films for MGM and was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in 'A Star Is Born' and 'Judgment at Nuremberg'.
