Joaquín Martínez, born on the 5th of November, 1930, was a popular Mexican actor who made a name for himself in the film, television, and theater industry. He often appeared in westward films, including the renowned 'Jeremiah Johnson' in which he played the role of a Crow Chief and 'Ulzana's Raid' directed by Robert Aldrich. Despite dealing with frequent typecasts that played on stereotypes linked to Latinos, Native Americans, and Mexicans, Martínez was known to reshape and reinterpret his characters through his powerful acting skills, at times leading to tensions with the director. He stepped into the world of acting after studying method acting under Seki Sano. His breakthrough performance was seen in the Mexican dramatic film 'Pedro Páramo'. Following this, he moved to Los Angeles and established himself as a professional film, television, and stage actor for more than three decades. Martínez appeared alongside famous actors like Anthony Quinn and Kevin Costner in films such as 'Revenge' and 'The House of Spirits'. In 2001, he was cast in 'Die Another Day', a James Bond film. Martínez also starred in several series and stage shows, including 'Zoot Suit', which broke sales records for live theater in Los Angeles when it debuted in 1978. His last appearance was in 'Castingx', a 2005 Dutch movie.
