Jessie Alice Tandy, known professionally as Jessica Tandy, was a British-American actress distinguished by a long and illustrious career in both stage and screen productions. She started her professional journey on the London stage at the tender age of 18, in 1927. As she matured, she earned a place in many plays in London's West End, setting the stage for her transition into films. Upon her marriage to Jack Hawkins crumbling, Tandy moved to the United States in search of better roles within Hollywood. She made her American film debut in The Seventh Cross in 1944, appearing alongside Cronyn, her second husband.

Throughout her impressive career, Tandy appeared in over 100 stage productions and had over 60 roles in film and TV. Her exemplary work earned her numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, four Tony Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award. As a testament to her longevity, Tandy became the oldest actress to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Driving Miss Daisy at 80 years old.
