Jack Fisk is an American production designer, art director, and film director whose career spans more than five decades, beginning in 1971 and continuing to the present day. Born on December 19, 1945, in Canton, Illinois, Fisk first emerged on the Hollywood scene as a talented set designer, quickly gaining recognition for his meticulous eye for detail and his ability to create immersive visual worlds that enhance narrative storytelling. His early work with director Terrence Malick on the groundbreaking film Badlands (1973) set the tone for a prolific partnership, as he would go on to design the visual aesthetic for Malick's next seven features, including the lyrical Days of Heaven (1978), the hauntingly poetic The Thin Red Line (1998), and the visually ambitious The Tree of Life (2011). Fisk's collaboration with David Lynch further solidified his reputation, contributing to the surreal atmosphere of Mulholland Drive (2001) and the distinctive look of The Straight Story (1999). His personal life is intertwined with the film industry; he married actress Sissy Spacek in 1974 after meeting her on the set of Badlands, and together they have two daughters, actress Schuyler Fisk and painter Madison Fisk.
