After completing her early education, she entered the film industry in 1946, initially taking uncredited parts such as a waitress in *Affairs of a Model* and a minor role in *Woman Without a Face*. These modest beginnings allowed her to hone a naturalistic style that resonated with directors seeking authenticity, and by the early 1950s she secured speaking roles, most notably as Viola in the adaptation of *Miss Julie* (1951). Gill’s breakthrough arrived with her collaboration with renowned filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, playing Lisa, the blacksmith’s wife, in the iconic *The Seventh Seal* (1957).
