Hugh Anthony Quarshie, known as Hugh Quarshie, is a Ghanaian-born British actor, born on 22 December 1954, in Accra, Ghana. An eminent personality in the film industry, Quarshie is lauded for his role as Ric Griffin on BBC One's medical drama 'Holby City' from 2001 to 2020. He is also noted for portraying Captain Panaka in the Star Wars film Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 1999. His array of stage roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he's been a member since 1981 and an associate since 2005, adds to his fame. Further, he has worked in films like Highlander, Nightbreed and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Quarshie's commendable work in the industry has earned him nominations for a BAFTA Award and saw him winning Critics' Circle Theatre Award and an Emmy Award.\n Quarshie, born to mixed Ghanaian, English, and Dutch ancestry, moved to the United Kingdom when he was three. Prior to embracing acting, he had contemplated a career in journalism. He graced many TV programmes and stage productions, and the TV series Behaving Badly with Judi Dench as his acting credits.
