His career in film spanned from 1919 to 1945, an era that encompassed the silent film period, the Weimar Republic, and the Nazi regime, during which he appeared in a wide variety of productions ranging from historical dramas to contemporary social narratives. Among his notable works are Destiny (1925), a film directed by Fritz Lang, as well as The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933), another Lang classic in which Netto contributed to the chilling atmosphere of the thriller genre.
