Glenn Edward Greenwald (born March 6, 1967 in Queens, New York City) is an American journalist, author, former lawyer and outspoken civil‑rights activist whose career has spanned more than three decades of legal advocacy and investigative reporting. After earning a B.A. in philosophy from George Washington University in 1990 and a J.D. from NYU School of Law in 1994, he practiced constitutional litigation at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz before co‑founding his own firm in 1996, focusing on First Amendment cases and representing controversial figures to defend the principle of free speech. Disillusioned with the limits of courtroom work, Greenwald turned to blogging in 2005, launching Unclaimed Territory where he chronicled the Plame affair, NSA warrantless surveillance, and other post‑9/11 civil‑liberties concerns, earning the 2005 Koufax Award for best new blog.
