Frank Wayne, born Francis Rossi Jr. on July 9, 1917, in Boston, Massachusetts, was a prominent American television producer and host who became one of the most influential figures in the game show industry. He built his career in television during the golden age of broadcast game shows, working with major production companies including Mark Goodson Productions. Wayne's early work included filling in as a host for Bud Collyer on the popular game show Beat the Clock in the summer of 1953, while simultaneously serving as a writer and stunt creator on the program. This experience gave him invaluable insight into the mechanics and audience engagement strategies that would define his later groundbreaking productions. Wayne eventually transitioned from on-camera duties to behind-the-scenes roles, becoming a producer on Beat the Clock and later establishing himself as a creative force in the genre. His ability to blend entertainment with audience participation became a hallmark of his producing style.

The pinnacle of Frank Wayne's career came when he became the executive producer of the iconic game show The Price Is Right in 1972, a position he held for 16 years until his death. He is credited with creating many of the show's most beloved pricing games, including the legendary Plinko, which became a signature element of the program. Wayne also created other successful shows, including The Match Game in 1962 and Now You See It in 1974, both produced for Mark Goodson–Bill Todman Productions. As an independent producer, he developed Laugh Line, a game show hosted by the celebrated actor Dick Van Dyke. Wayne passed away on March 18, 1988, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 70. Following his death, longtime host Bob Barker assumed the title of executive producer, and a heartfelt tribute was aired after an episode of The Price Is Right. Wayne's legacy lived on through his two sons, Philip Wayne Rossi and Mark Wayne, both of whom continued working on The Price Is Right.
