Fannie Flagg (born Patricia Neal on September 21, 1944) is an American actress, comedian, and author whose career has spanned more than five decades. Raised as an only child in Birmingham, Alabama, she displayed a precocious love for storytelling, writing her first play at the age of ten and entering the Miss Alabama pageant as a teenager, where a scholarship to a local acting school sparked her ambition to perform.
