Evelyn Ronald Redvers Roberts was a distinguished English stage and film actor whose career spanned four decades in the early-to-mid twentieth century. Born on 28 August 1886 in Reading, Berkshire, Roberts developed his craft during one of the most transformative periods in theatrical and cinematic history. He made his stage debut in 1918, following his service in the First World War, and quickly established himself as a versatile performer on the British stage. His most celebrated theatrical achievement came when he appeared in the original Broadway production of R.C. Sherriff's acclaimed play "Journey's End" during 1929-1930, a powerful anti-war drama that resonated deeply with audiences in the post-war era. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Roberts transitioned seamlessly into the burgeoning film industry, contributing to a remarkable body of work that included films such as Bolibar (1928), Say It with Music (1932), Sorrell and Son (1934), The Feathered Serpent (1934), and No Limit (1935). He demonstrated remarkable range across genres, appearing in comedies like Keep Fit (1937) and Sing As We Go (1934), as well as more dramatic works such as The Winslow Boy (1948). His later career included notable appearances in The Heart of the Matter (1953), The Green Scarf (1954), and Man of the Moment (1955), the latter of which featured him prominently in its promotional materials. He also appeared in thrillers such as The Clue of the Missing Ape (1953) and adventure films including Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel (1937). Roberts was married to Daisy Cordell in 1921, and their union endured until her death in 1959. He passed away on 30 November 1962 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, at the age of 76, leaving behind a rich legacy in British entertainment history that continues to be appreciated by classic film enthusiasts.
