Emmylou Harris, born on April 2, 1947, is an esteemed American singer, songwriter, musician, bandleader, and activist known for her extraordinary contributions to country rock and Americana music. She is notable for her unique musical style, which harmoniously combines country and rock genres, enabling her to capture both audiences. Her characteristic voice, sense of musical style, and songwriting skills have garnered acclaim from critics and fellow musicians alike. At an early age, Harris developed an interest in folk music which sparked her career in music. After moving to New York in the '60s, she recorded a folk album and performed on a regional level. She was discovered by Gram Parsons who significantly influenced her music direction. Following his death in 1973, Harris obtained her own recording contract from Reprise–Warner Bros. Her second album, 'Pieces of the Sky' (1975), was critically acclaimed and a commercial success. Subsequent albums further established her career. Harris continued releasing commercially successful albums like 'Roses in the Snow' (1980), 'Evangeline' (1981), and 'Last Date' (1982). Later, Harris moved in a new direction with 'Wrecking Ball' (1995), followed by collaborations with Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Mark Knopfler. Harris has sold over 15 million records worldwide, won 13 Grammy Awards, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008.

Harris was born in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1947, the daughter of Walter Rutland Harris and Eugenia Harris. She developed a fascination with folk artists such as Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Buffy Sainte-Marie. She started her music career as a folk singer and then shifted her focus to country music. Her career took a turn when she collaborated with Gram Parsons. Harris has been married thrice and has two children. A devoted animal lover, she started her dog rescue called Bonaparte's Retreat. Harris is estimated to have sold over 15 million records worldwide, and she continues to perform and play shows.
