Donald Moffat (December 26, 1930 – December 20, 2018) was a British-American actor known for his extensive career both on-stage and on-screen. His acting journey began on- and off-Broadway, where he made notable appearances in The Wild Duck and Right You Are If You Think You Are, earning him Tony Award nominations for both. He won an Obie Award for his performance in Painting Churches. He found additional recognition in feature films, including memorable roles in The Thing (1982), The Right Stuff (1983), and On the Nickel (1980), where he played a struggling alcoholic. Also noted for his television presence, Moffat made guest appearances on various series like Little House on the Prairie, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and The West Wing. His birthplace was Plymouth, Devon, England, where he was the only child of Kathleen Mary (née Smith) and Walter George Moffat, an insurance agent. After completing his studies and national service in the Army, Moffat trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. In his personal life, Moffat was first married to Anne Murray and they had two children. He later married actress Gwen Arner. He passed away on December 20, 2018, due to complications from a stroke.
