Christophe Honoré: Movies & Box Office

Christophe Honoré, born on 10 April 1970, is a renowned French writer, film, and theatre director. He was born in Carhaix, Finistère and relocated to Paris in 1995. His contribution to the world of French cinema is immense with noteworthy work as an 'auteur'. His tryst with writing began soon after his move to Paris when he wrote articles for Les Cahiers du Cinéma. His 1996 book 'Tout contre Léo', talks about dealing with HIV, made into a film in 2002, and is aimed at young adults. Throughout the late 90s, he wrote other books targeting the young adult audience.

His first play, 'Les Débutantes', made its debut at Avignon's Off Festival in 1998. He returned to Avignon in 2005 to showcase 'Dionysos impuissant' in the 'In' Festival, with leads played by Joana Preiss and Louis Garrel. His 2006 film 'Dans Paris' has established him as the successor to Nouvelle Vague cinema in the eyes of French critics. He is also acclaimed for his screenplay work for Gaël Morel's films, and actors Louis Garrel and Chiara Mastroianni have frequently featured in his films. Not limiting himself to cinema, Honoré has directed numerous operas, with several for the Opéra de Lyon, and his productions are known for their radical approach to traditional works. He also ventured into a film about production and uncertain times titled 'Guermantes' in 2021 during the Covid-19 lockdown.
