Catherine Frot is a highly acclaimed French actress, born on 1 May 1956. She has been a staunch figure in the French film industry since 1975 and has been nominated for a César Award 10 times during her illustrious career. Catherine received accolades for her standout performances in Marguerite (2015), for which she won Best Actress, and Family Resemblances(1996), where her performance earned her the award for Best Supporting Actress. Her repertoire also includes notable films such as Le Dîner de Cons (1998), La Dilettante (1999), and Haute Cuisine (2012). The actress was born in Paris, France, the offspring of an engineer and a mathematics teacher. She also has a younger sister, Dominique, who followed in her thespian footsteps. Driven by her comic talent, Catherine enrolled in the prestigious Versailles conservatory at the mere age of 14 while still in school. Subsequently, in 1974, she furthered her studies at the Rue Blanche school before taking up full-time education at the conservatory. Notable in her theatre career, Catherine made her mark when she appeared at the Festival d'Avignon in 1975 with the Compagnie du Chapeau Rouge (Red Hat Company), which she co-founded. She wholly dedicated herself to theatre performances, landing roles such as the Présidente de Tourvel in the play Les Liaisons dangereuses in 1987. Her film career also flourished, capturing hearts as Yolande in Cédric Klapisch's Un air de famille and in 7 ans de mariage, where she embodied the character of a prudish banker, wife, and mother.
