Armin Dahlen (14 October 1919 – 26 July 2013) was a distinguished Austrian actor whose career spanned nearly four decades in both film and television. Born in the picturesque town of Wolfsberg, Carinthia, he grew up in Austria during the interwar period and would go on to become a recognizable face in European cinema. Dahlen also worked as a television director, showcasing his versatility behind the camera. He was also known by the alternate name Armin Schiestl, under which some of his works may have been credited. His career in the entertainment industry began in 1949 and continued actively until 1988, giving him almost forty years of experience in the industry. Among his most notable performances was his role in the acclaimed 1954 Ealing Studios drama The Divided Heart, a film that explored themes of identity, adoption, and post-war European trauma. Dahlen frequently appeared in Austrian and German productions, often playing characters that ranged from soldiers and priests to ordinary civilians caught in extraordinary circumstances. His filmography includes memorable appearances in films such as The Green Devils of Monte Cassino (1958), where he portrayed Pater Emmanuel, and Stalingrad: Dogs, Do You Want to Live Forever? (1959), in which he played Major Stanescu. He also featured in the epic war film The Longest Day (1962), appearing as Blumentritt's Adjutant in an uncredited role. Beyond his work on the big screen, Dahlen was active in television, starring in series such as Rinaldo Rinaldini (1968–1969) where he played the character Fra Donato. He also appeared in several TV films based on the works of Austrian writer Peter Rosegger, playing the character Lorenz Rosegger in three related productions in 1963. Dahlen passed away on 26 July 2013 at the age of 93, leaving behind a rich legacy of performances that contributed to the landscape of postwar European cinema.
