Anabel Ferreira (born Anabel Ferreira Batiz on 26 September 1962 in Aguascalientes, Mexico) is a celebrated Mexican actress and comedian best known for pioneering the variety‑comedy format on Mexican television. After finishing high school, she moved to Mexico City in 1978 to pursue acting classes and became one of the first graduates of Televisa’s Centro de Educación Artística in 1981, the same year she debuted on the sketch program Cachun Cachun Ra Ra and landed her first featured role in the telenova Una limosna de amor. Throughout the early 1980s she built a solid résumé with appearances in popular telenovelas such as Cuando los hijos se van, Principessa and Senda de gloria, as well as comedy series like Antojitos Mexicanos and guest spots on Mis huéspedes, El hospital de la risa and the legendary variety shows La Carabina de Ambrosio and Siempre en domingo. In October 1988 Televisa launched her eponymous series ¡Anabel!, a groundbreaking comedy‑variety program that ran for eight years and became one of Mexico’s most successful shows; the series featured recurring cast members María Alicia Delgado, Mario Bezares, Carlos Ignacio and a young Eugenio Derbez, and welcomed guest stars ranging from comedian César Bono to singers such as Pepe Aguilar, Alejandra Guzmán and Gloria Trevi. Signature sketches like “El y Ella” and “Coralia y Yadhira” showcased Ferreira’s knack for blending slapstick humor with musical numbers, cementing her status as a household name. After Televisa did not renew her contract in 1996, she briefly hosted Buenos Noches con Anabel on TV Azteca before spending a decade as a guest performer on that network’s programs. Returning to Televisa in 2008, she resumed regular work, appearing on shows like Hoy, Muevete and the telenovela Soy tu Dueña (2010), all while residing in Los Angeles and maintaining dual citizenship in Mexico and the United States. Her contributions to Mexican television have been honored with induction onto the Paseo de las Luminarias, solidifying her legacy as a trailblazing entertainer.
