He was born in Queens, New York City, and raised in Harlem, absorbing the vibrant cultural tapestry of the city while balancing an Antiguan paternal heritage with a Southern maternal lineage from South Carolina. Joseph attended Rice High School, where his early interest in performance was nurtured, and later graduated from Howard University, a historically Black institution that deepened his understanding of storytelling and African‑American artistic traditions.
