Aspiring rapper Owen Ellison and his childhood friend and manager Jeff Levine embark on a quest for fame when they unexpectedly discover Bernard in a bathroom stall, mistaking him for the sought-after Rahmel. In a stroke of luck, Jeff persuades Bernard to get Rahmel to attend their upcoming gig, offering producer credits on a future album in return.
Upon returning home from school, Owen encounters Alicia, Jeff’s sister, whom he has harbored feelings for since childhood. He extends an invitation for her to come to their next performance. Meanwhile, Jeff invites his father, who admonishes Jeff to focus on his Harvard ambitions rather than chasing a music career. Before taking the stage, Owen talks to his father backstage to calm his nerves, prompting Jeff to wish for more support from his own father.
In a twist of fate, Owen seeks help from William, but encounters Jeff, who insists Owen confront William due to a past incident in which William shot someone Jeff cared about. The duo later meets Bernard, an intern at Atlantic Records, who brings along Wiz Khalifa instead of Rahmel. They share some weed with Wiz before Owen’s big performance. However, disaster strikes when Owen vomits on Wiz and suffers a seizure, leading to the embarrassing video dubbed “Seezjah Boy” going viral. Overwhelmed by the humiliation, Owen decides to enlist in the Marines.
Desperate to avoid this fate, Jeff urges Owen to promise that if he secures a record deal by Friday, he won’t enlist. Throughout Wednesday, Owen visits various record labels, only to be met with rejection as the world deems him a joke after the viral incident. The following morning, Jeff’s effort pays off when Jessica at Atlantic grants them access to a secret show featuring French Montana, where they hope to get a word with Rahmel. With Alicia’s assistance, they manage to get past the gates, igniting an unforgettable night that leads to them mysteriously entering the After Party.
Their adventure continues as they navigate through mishaps, including bringing three strippers along while inadvertently damaging Jeff’s father’s luxurious Rolls Royce. As they rush to the After After Party, they ultimately arrive too late to meet either Alicia or Rahmel, leading to a heated argument between Jeff and Owen. However, Owen utilizes this moment to unleash a fierce diss rap that momentarily stuns Jeff.
Later, in a chaotic moment, Owen comes to Jeff’s aid during a fight, and they reconcile as friends. With the help of Bernard, they secure Rahmel’s address for one last shot at rapping for him. Despite their daring climb up a fire escape, they face an unexpected setback when they get maced.
When Owen returns home in the morning, his father informs him of their impending departure. Meanwhile, as Jeff finally shares a genuine moment with his dad, his phone buzzes with news that their rap and fight have gone viral—leading everyone to want to sign Owen. Inspired by this turn of events, Owen reconsiders his future and prepares to chase his dreams one last time.
In a heartwarming conclusion, we witness Owen’s rise to success with Jeff proudly managing his career.
