Al Jardine, born Alan Charles Jardine on September 3, 1942 in Lima, Ohio, is best known as a founding member of the iconic American rock band The Beach Boys. His early years saw the family move from Ohio to Rochester, New York, then to Hawthorne, California, where he met future bandmate Brian Wilson at Hawthorne High School and began collaborating on harmony ideas that would shape the surf‑rock sound. After a brief stint at Ferris State University and El Camino College, Jardine helped the group record their debut single "Surfin'" in 1961, playing stand‑up bass before switching to rhythm guitar when David Marks left in 1963. He contributed distinctive lead vocals on classics such as "Help Me, Rhonda," "Then I Kissed Her," and "Cotton Fields," and his songwriting yielded hits like the UK top‑10 single "Lady Lynda" in 1978.
