In the final days of World War II, Lt. Ted Stryker, Dana Andrews, a Royal Air Force fighter pilot, is haunted by a fatal wartime command that cost six of his squadron brothers their lives. The guilt accumulates into a heavy burden that shadows his every move, dragging him through a string of unfulfilling jobs after the war and casting a long shadow over his marriage. Years after the war, he lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where his psyche remains unsettled and his sense of purpose wavers as he watches his personal life unravel.
