You Are My Adventure 1958

Tore Gunnar Björnstrand Hall works as a journalist at the Daily News in Stockholm. The newspaper hires a new employee, Lena Bergström Sickan Carlsson, who has already written an article that Tore should have written, and the two will even share his office, setting a tense but intimate stage for what follows.

Lena is very effective and ambitious, and this dynamic makes Tore feel displaced in his familiar space. Yet he is also attracted to Lena, and during a joint assignment in the mountains, he reveals his feelings. In time, they marry. Lena’s journalistic success continues as the couple welcome a small child into their life, and they hire a maid to help balance work and home.

The arrangement falters as the maids resign one after another. After sacking their fourth maid, Tore concludes that because he earns less money, he will stop working and stay at home with their child and take care of the home, a decision that signals a major shift in their daily life.

Lena remains focused on her career and continues to work very hard. She is content with this arrangement, while Tore begins to see less of her. Then a doorbell rings, and a young woman named Chris Blom, an art student, stands outside asking about a room. Tore, somewhat surprised, goes ahead with letting the room to her, and she moves in. Suddenly Lena feels left out by the new arrangement, and the balance between their professional lives and their family life starts to tilt in new directions.
